  • Dual Car Lineup for the 2017 BTCC Season

AutoSport - Racing Cat Show 2017The AmDTuning / Cobra Sport team will expand to run two cars in the 2017 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season having been granted an additional TOCA BTCC Licence (TBL). The team moves into the 2017 season with a pair of Audi S3's, upgraded to run the latest RML control parts to improve performance and meet stringent championship regulations.

With Ollie Jackson having been previously confirmed for a second year in the S3, the team are pleased to announce the signing of reigning Renault UK Clio Cup champion Ant Whorton-Eales to complete the line up and become the latest winner of the popular Clio Cup to make the move onto the highly competitive BTCC grid.

Ant Whorton-Eales BTCC AmDTuningThe 2017 driver lineup was announced on the opening day of the 2017 Autosport International Racing Car Show held at the NEC Birmingham where the team featured prominently on the Official Dunlop BTCC stand. Representatives from Cobra Sport were in attendance along with the 2 drivers and team members from AmDTuning.

Ant is a member of the BRDC’s Rising Star programme and since being crowned Clio Champion has displayed his talents earning tests with a number of BTCC teams last autumn. Ant will sample the Audi S3 for the first time when pre-season testing gets underway next month. Ant will compete for the Jack Sears Trophy as it will be his first year in the championship and will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of the previous Clio Cup champion Ash Sutton, who secured the trophy last year in his debut season.

“It’s no secret that I wanted to move into the BTCC this season and we’ve spent a lot of time looking at the various options that were available,” Ant said. “Once we spoke to Shaun about his plans with the second Audi, the deal was a very easy one to do and it was all wrapped up within a day.

AmDTuning Audi S3 at Autosport International 2017“I’m delighted to be able to confirm my place on the touring car grid, and I think that I’ve made a good choice in AmDTuning.com for my first season. The team has plenty of experience and there is a lot of potential in the Audi that I aim to benefit from.

“As a rookie driver, the main target has to be the Jack Sears Trophy and it would be nice if we could be pushing towards the top ten in the championship by the end of the year.

AmD Tuning team boss Shaun Hollamby revealed his delight at bringing the reigning Clio champion onboard, and said he felt confident that his driver line-up would impress during the year ahead.

“From the moment we confirmed that we would have a second car on the grid, we’ve spoken to a number of drivers who were keen to join us for 2017, and we’re delighted to have been able to do a deal with Ant to fill the seat,” he said. “Even before winning the Clio title last year, he had shown his potential on track and we’re confident that he will be a strong addition to the grid this year.

“Alongside Ollie Jackson, he gives us a strong partnership for our first full season as a two-car BTCC team and we go into 2017 with our focus firmly on fighting for regular points and on pushing towards the top ten."

  • AmDTuning.com show potential in challenging BTCC opener

AmDTuning BTCC Car 2016 Audi S3 Ollie Jackson - Cobra Sport SponsoredCobra Sport will again be a main sponsor of the AmDTuning.com BTCC team and we will be following the team throughout the upcoming season, experiencing the highs and lows of running in the BTCC for a second year.

The Cobra Sport sponsored AmDTuning.com BTCC team showed a glimpse of its potential on what proved to be a challenging start to the 2016 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch this weekend.

The West Thurrock-based team went into the season opener hoping to challenge for points finishes, with driver Ollie Jackson making his first appearance at the wheel of the team’s striking Audi S3. Showing strong pace throughout Saturday’s testing and qualifying runs, Tamworth-based Ollie managed to record time quick enough for an encouraging 20th place on grid, with his fastest lap being just four tenths of a second away from the top ten.

In the first race Ollie made a strong start from 20th on the grid and battled his way up to as high as 14th before his race was cut short by a stub axle failure through Clearways whilst running inside the points which forced to head for the pits. The retirement meant a tough race two grid position down in 29th place from which Ollie managed to make his way up through the field to complete the race in a solid 23rd place even with an issue with one of his soft compound Dunlop tyres which prevented him from climbing any higher up the pack.

Race three also proved to be a difficult race having found himself stuck in traffic for the duration of the final race of the weekend, Ollie crossed the line in 22nd, but remained upbeat about the potential of the Audi.

Ollie Jackson @ Brands Hatch"Bad luck seemed to follow us today, which was unfortunate as I think we showed glimpses of the potential that we have in the car,” he said. “We were putting in a really competitive performance in the opening race of the day and there is no doubt that we were on to start the season with some points before the problem with the car. It was just unfortunate that as I went to enter the pits, someone else tried to make a move up the inside.

“Although points would have been nice, there is plenty we can take away from the weekend.”

For team boss Shaun Hollamby, the season opener proved to be a case of 'what might have been', although he too insisted there were plenty of positives to take away from the first round of the year.

AmDTuning Audi S3 “Race one was looking really good and Ollie was doing a great job on track before damage from the earlier contact caused a front suspension failure,” he said. “Had we managed to end that race where we should have done, then it would have been a totally different story as the car had the pace – we just weren’t able to show it in the second and third races.

We now turn our attention to the next round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Donington Park in 2 weeks time.
