  • Autosport International Show 2016 - AmDTuning.com & Cobra Sport unveil new 2016 BTCC car

2016 BTCC Car Audi S3 Shaun HollambyCobra Sport once again enjoyed a strong presence at the 2016 Performance Car Show with an incredibly popular stand in hall 19. The Autosport International Show covers over 1 million sq ft and attracts over 80,000 visitors each year making it the number one show for motorsport in the UK.

At the show we unveiled the new livery for the 2016 AmDTuning.com / Cobra Sport Audi S3 BTCC car on the Cobra Sport Exhaust stand. The 2016 livery pays homage to one of motorsport's most iconic colour schemes and features the AmDTuning.com and Cobra Sport red and black branding combined with Audi’s famous racing stripes from the ’80s IMSA Audi 90 GTO.

Cobra Sport AmDTuning at Autosport Show 2016The car which will compete in the 2016 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship was on display on the Cobra Sport Exhausts stand for the whole of the Autosport International Show.

Having fielded the Audi S3 during five events in 2015 (driven by Nicolas Hamilton), the team will embark on its first full season with the car this year. The car has been away to be stripped back to basics, rebuilt and remodelled ready to compete in the 2016 BTCC championship. Hopes are high for a successful campaign, building on the early promise shown by the front-wheel drive machine. To celebrate a full time switch to the Audi after two seasons running the Cobra Sport Exhausts sponsored Ford Focus ST, the team have taken inspiration from one of the German manufacturer's most famous liveries..

“We’re pleased to take the covers off the new look Audi and think the end result will stand out on track during the season ahead,” AmD team boss Shaun Hollamby said. “We were keen to go back to our traditional colours this year and we saw the ideal opportunity to incorporate elements of the IMSA Audi livery to celebrate our first full season with the S3."

“Audi has a huge amount of history and heritage in motorsport and whilst we are an independent team, we are proud to celebrate part of that heritage in the livery we have chosen. The famous Audi stripes go well with our own red and black, and also with the colours of Cobra Sport Exhausts who we are delighted to have on board again this season.”

Cobra Sport Clothing Model at Autosport Show 2016The 2016 Autosport International Show also saw the launch of the brand new Cobra Sport clothing range as worn at the show by our model. The new clothing range includes Cobra Sport branded hoodies, zipped hoodies and softshell jackets along with a choice of polo shirts and t-shirts. The clothing is currently available online and will shortly be stocked at Cobra Sport HQ in Sheffield.

The two trade days proved to be very productive catching up with existing contacts and adding to our network of dealers generating an ever increasing interest in the Cobra Sport brand and the direction we are moving as a company. Over the 2 weekend public days our stand was incredibly busy, both for photographs of the Audi S3 BTCC car but also with enquiries about our extensive range of direct fit performance exhaust applications. Thank you to everyone who visited the stand over the 4 days of the show, we hope to see you again at the other car shows and events that we will be attending throughout the summer months.

  • New Cobra Sport Brand Video - Racing, Events, Shows and BTCC Sponsorship

Throughout 2015 a local film company followed us to the many car shows and events that we attend during the year capturing a vast array of video footage. This footage has now been condensed and edited down to form our new brand video focusing on the sponsorship, events and promotional side of the Cobra Sport brand.

Our latest brand video begins with footage from the beginning of the year showcasing our attendance at the prestigious Autosport International Show at the NEC in Birmingham. During the summer we attend all of the major national car shows taking along our demo cars, events trailer and exhaust display stands. The video includes footage from the popular Ford Fair show at Silverstone where we were in attendance with Cobra Sport sponsored AmD Tuning Ford Focus BTCC car on show.

Our sponsorship deal and partnership with leading UK tuning company AmD Tuning allows us unique behind the scenes access to BTCC race days. For the 2015 season we supported Mike Bushell in the AmD Ford Focus ST and followed the highs and lows of a season running in the fantastic British Touring Car Championship, which is where the video concludes.

Our latest video is the third in a series of Cobra Sport brand videos released in the last year with the previous two featuring our Japanese performance exhaust range and the development of our popular exhaust for the VW Golf R. These two previous videos take a look behind the scenes at the Cobra Sport factory putting on show the stringent manufacturing operations performed in order to create each Cobra Sport exhaust. Cobra Sport continue to set new standards in quality and performance with innovative exhaust design matched with unparalleled manufacturing expertise. Our exhaust systems are engineered to the highest tolerances ensuring a perfect first-time fit and a truly pitch perfect exhaust sound.

  • BTCC Competition Winner Attends Brands Hatch

BTCC Brands Hatch Pit Lane WalkAt many of our events during the summer we ran a competition for the chance to win a trip to a BTCC race of your choice to support Mike Bushell and the AmDTuning.com racing team. The competition winner Paul chose to attend the final BTCC race of the season at Brands Hatch and enjoyed race day hospitality and unique pit lane access.

We plan to run a similar competition for next season to win tickets to the 2016 BTCC races with entries due to open at the Autosport show in January.

  • Cobra Sport Supports AmDTuning.com at the penultimate BTCC Event at Silverstone

Mike Bushell on Grid at Silverstone with Cobra SportThe Cobra Sport team enjoyed a fantastic day behind the scenes at the penultimate BTCC race of the year at Silverstone. No fewer than 25 Cobra Sport staff and guests were welcomed by the AmDTuning.com team and were able to experience the highs and lows of the day in the garage, as the two drivers battled through the intense competition that the British Touring Car Championships offers. With the Silverstone BTCC event a sell out there was a real buzz around the circuit and in the AmdTuning.com garage.

Mike Bushell in the Cobra Sport sponsored AmDTuning.com Ford Focus displayed strong pace throughout the weekend building on progress made throughout this season. The team had made a number of radical changes to the set up of the Focus in the run up to the weekend with the intention of improving the handling to become more competitive. The changes certainly had the desired effect with Mike showing excellent pace throughout free practice and qualifying on the Saturday securing an excellent 15th place on the grid for race one on Sunday and was the quickest rookie in the field. The Cobra Sport team enjoyed being out on the grid at Silverstone before the first race of the day soaking up the atmosphere as the cars lined up.

After a good start, hopes for a strong points finish in the opening race were deflated after the Focus was knocked sideways at Brooklands and lost places, but Mike recovered well and managed to keep amongst the pack. The improved set up of the car enabled Mike to battle back up through the field setting a fastest lap time only four-tenths of a second off the pace to secure 15th place and the final points finish.

Mike Bushell in Silverstone BTCC PitsRace two was to prove more of a challenge for Mike who was running the soft compound Dunlop tyre yet he managed to bring the car home in 17th place. The best performance of the day was however saved for the final race where Mike took top rookie honours crossing the finishing line in a very impressive 13th place.

The AmDTuning.com team will head to the final BTCC event of the season held on the Grand Prix circuit at Brands Hatch over the weekend of the 10th & 11th October. The 2015 BTCC title is still up for grabs, with 5 drivers in contention. The Cobra Sport team are looking forward to following all of the action from Brands Hatch where Mike and the AmDTuning.com team will be looking to build upon the successes of Silverstone and end the season on a high.

We’ll be live tweeting all the action from Brands Hatch so make sure you Follow us on Twitter to keep up with all of the action and results throughout race day!

     Quotes:

Mike Bushell - #21 Ford Focus:
“I’m really pleased with the way the weekend has panned out and especially the final race as we were able to keep in touch with the main front-runners ahead. Race day started quite well and to come back from the contact early on to finish inside the points was encouraging, although it was harder in race two as we struggled for pace on the soft tyre. Race three was really good though and we held our own against some strong opposition to finish 13th.

“When the car has settled down in the races, we’ve been able to show some really strong pace this weekend but we just lack that last little bit in qualifying. However, the progress we’re made has been good and I think we are in a good place heading for Brands Hatch.”

    Shaun Hollamby – team principal:
“Overall it’s been a positive weekend for us as a team and I think both drivers have done a good job. Mike’s pace across race day has been encouraging and to pick up two points finishes, and be first rookie home in race three, is really pleasing. The changes we made to the Focus coming into the weekend have clearly worked as he felt more comfortable in the car and hopefully he can build on this weekend on Finals Day in a few weeks.”
