  • Performance Vauxhall Show 2016 at Santa Pod

PVS Show LogoFor our second show of the year we headed to the Santa Pod Raceway in Northamptonshire for the Performance Vauxhall Show. The show featured non-stop Vauxhall action throughout the day including runs on the legendary Santa Pod drag strip along with thousands of the UK's best Vauxhall vehicles on display.

On our stand we were incredibly excited to have on display our brand new Venom exhaust system for the Vauxhall Astra J VXR. Since the preview at the show, this product has now been launched online and is sure to be a big hit with Astra J VXR owners looking for the ultimate sports exhaust system. The new Venom system drew large crowds when the sound demonstrations were taking place, the pitch perfect tone of the Venom system is best heard in person to really appreciate the quality of the Venom exhaust upgrade.

We were also pleased to have the Vauxhall Corsa E VXR on display fitted with a full non resonated Cobra Sport turbo back exhaust system with a de-cat front pipe. The Corsa E VXR is a vehicle which is growing in popularity over the past few months and also drew many admiring fans through the show. The third car on the stand was an Astra H VXR which continues to be a very popular system with our buyers and dealers. The VXR had a full Cobra Sport turbo back exhaust fitted with first and second de-cat front pipes.

Our stand was incredibly busy throughout that day and our new clothing range proved to be popular. Cobra Sport hoodies, polo shirts and t-shirts will be available to purchase at all of our car shows this summer along with at BTCC races and also directly from our website.

  • Pace unrewarded for AmDTuning at Oulton Park BTCC Event

AmDTuning Ollie Jackson Oulton Park BTCCThe Cobra Sport team enjoyed attending another exciting weekend of racing when the British Touring Car Championship headed to Oulton Park in Cheshire this weekend. The AmDTuning.com BTCC team were left with a feeling of what could have been after missing the opportunity to continue their points scoring form from the previous round at Thruxton.

Oulton Park is a notoriously difficult track to overtake making qualifying well highly important. Despite producing one of his most competitive qualifying laps of the season at just 1.2 seconds away from pole, the highly competitive nature of the British Touring Car Championships meant that Ollie Jackson started in 26th place on the grid in the Audi S3 Saloon for the first race of the day. Ollie would end the opening race in the same position he started, with damage to the front of his car from contact on track not helping his chances of progressing up the order towards the end.

Race two however would see Ollie able to work his way forwards through the field as he stayed out of trouble; lapping quickly and consistently to take the chequered flag in 20th place and leave him well placed to push for a points scoring finish in race three.

AmD Tuning Grip Oulton ParkRunning on the softer compound Dunlop tyre, Ollie was able to make up three places on the opening lap but his chances of adding to his Thruxton score would end on lap three when the bonnet on the Audi suddenly flew up across the windscreen – a legacy of contact earlier on that had broken the pins holding the bonnet in place.

Forced into the pits to allow the team to tape the bonnet down, Ollie returned to action at the back of the field just ahead of the leaders but – having allowed the factory Hondas of Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden through – he was then able to produce some of his quickest laps of the weekend as followed the leaders to the finish, with his pace being a match for a number of drivers inside the top ten.

“Race three was a case of what might have been with the pace we had showed, and it’s a shame we weren’t in that position earlier in the weekend,” Ollie said. “Qualifying where we did, it was always going to be difficult on race day given how tough it is to overtake around Oulton Park but by the end of race two, we were in a position where it looked like points were possible.

AmD Oulton Park Ollie Jackson Damage“The strides forwards we have taken this weekend aren’t reflected in the end results and we still have work to do, but there are positives to take out of the weekend as we head for Croft and the last meeting before the summer break.”

Team boss Shaun Hollamby shared in Ollie’s disappointment at the missed opportunity to score points but vowed that the team would come back stronger.

“The final race showed the kind of pace that we have in the car and that is something we have to look to build on through the remainder of the season,” he said. “Even though it is hard to pass at Oulton Park when you qualify in the pack, there were definitely points to be had this weekend so it’s a little frustrating that we come away from the weekend without any to our name.

Throughout the weekend we once again had a full range of Cobra Sport Hoodies and Official AmDTuning team wear available for sale from the Motorsport Photography stall. Our merchandise range will be available at all of the BTCC races this year and look forward to seeing the caps, t-shirts and hoodies in the crowd at Croft in 2 weeks time.

  • Available Now - Ultimate Venom for the Ford Fiesta ST180

Ford_Fiesta_ST180_Venom_Sports_ExhaustCobra Sport have taken their range of exhausts for the Ford Fiesta ST180 to the next level with the release of a Venom style system finished with either a single or twin tailpipes. The new Venom systems remove the back box found in our cat back systems to offer an exhaust system with unrivalled sound and tone. The bore size has been increased to 3” (76.2mm) and the stainless steel pipework runs the full length of the vehicle allowing unrivalled flow rates whilst creating the pitch perfect aggressive sound preferred by many ST180 owners.

The Cobra Sport system Venom system delivers a significant weight saving over standard. Testing of the Venom system resulted in a staggering 21% reduction in weight from the OE system’s 14.42kg, with the Cobra Sport system weighing in at only 11.2kg. The most significant improvement of the Venom system is the incredible sound quality produced by the simplified pipework. The volume of the Venom cat back system which includes a resonated section increases by +8.7db to 89.9db at 4000rpm. Matched with the additional Sports Cat front pipe the sound levels at 4000rpm rise by +15db to 96.2db creating an incredibly vibrant deep sporty exhaust tone.

Matt Thomas, Sales Manager at Cobra Sport says “When we developed our existing range for the ST180 we created a range of systems which allowed for excellent power increases and weight savings. The Fiesta has continued to be an incredibly popular model so we knew that we needed to give our system a further edge. • Available Now - BMW M135i Performance Exhaust Systems

BMW M135i Cobra Sport ExhaustThe BMW M135i has been described as one of the purest, most enjoyable driving BMWs to have been released in a very long time. The M135i boasts a turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six engine matched with rear wheel drive, making it a very attractive offering with exceptional handling characteristics and acceleration to match. The 3.0 litre engine found in the M135i gives an impressive 0-62mph time of just over 5 seconds. Our development model benchmarked 306bhp and 290 lb ft when tested on the rolling road.

The Cobra Sport research and development team quickly made the decision to base the new performance exhaust systems for the BMW M135i on 3" (76.2mm) T304 stainless steel pipework. This pipework allows the engine to breathe and contributes to our aim for the largest natural performance improvements. Independent testing of the non resonated cat back system revealed impressive gains of +10bhp along with 16 lb ft of torque. The outstanding power results are complemented by a significant weight advantage with the Cobra Sport system weighing only 16.32kg giving a 20% decrease from the OEM weight of 20.38kg.

Cobra Sport Sales Manager Matt Thomas commented "We're very excited about the release of the system for the M135i. The 3.0 litre engine has a fantastic reputation and our R&D team have been able to extract excellent power gains. The pick of the systems is the non resonated cat back exhaust, the sound is incredible with a beautiful pitch and tone. The sound from this system brought a local street to a standstill when out testing so I anticipate it to be a great success".

The new sports exhaust systems are available in a number of configurations to cover the many different needs of M135i owners. The systems are based around a cat back configuration with the option for either a resonated or louder non resonated centre section. These cat back systems can be matched with a choice of front pipe replacement with either a sports cat option to further increase the available power gains along with a de-cat pipe to create the most dynamic sound track.

The BMW M135i has an aggressive stance on the road with wide flared wheel arches matched with a smart but subtle body kit. Cobra Sport are keen to improve the styling over the standard M-sport exhaust to finish off the rear of the M135i with a more aggressive and balanced look by finishing the system with 3.5" (88.9mm) inward rolled baffled highly polished stainless steel tailpipes.
