  • AmDTuning.com / Cobra Sport confirm Ollie Jackson for 2016 BTCC campaign

    AmDTuning.com have today confirmed that Ollie Jackson will pilot the Cobra Sport sponsored Audi S3 in the 2016 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.

    Ollie Jackson BTCC DriverCobra Sport will again be a main sponsor of the AmDTuning.com BTCC team and we will be following the team throughout the upcoming season, experiencing the highs and lows of running in the BTCC for a second year. The Audi S3 livery for the 2016 season features the AmDTuning.com and Cobra Sport red and black branding combined with Audi’s famous racing stripes from the ’80s IMSA Audi 90 GTO. Paying homage to Audi racing history. The livery for this season was launched on our stand at the Autosport Show back in January. The BTCC Media Day held on the 22nd March at Donington Park was a huge success with a huge interest in the new Audi S3. Feedback on the newly designed livery has been incredibly positive with some suggesting it to be the best looking car on the 2016 BTCC grid.

    31-year-old Ollie Jackson raced with the West Thurrock-based team in his first full BTCC campaign in 2012, taking three top ten finishes at the wheel of a Volkswagen Golf en route to 18th in the standings. Jackson then spent two further seasons in the series before moving into the Ginetta GT4 Supercup last year.

There is no doubt that the Audi has a lot of potential, but we also have to be realistic in what is going to be a very strong field. I see no reason why we can’t challenge for points on a regular basis during the season and if we can also break into the top ten as we go along then I think we can be happy.”

    Team boss Shaun Hollamby spoke of his pleasure in welcoming Jackson back to the AmDTuning.com as the team embarks on a first full season running the striking red Audi S3.

    “We had a lot of interest in the car for this season, particularly after people had chance to see it in the flesh in the new livery at the Autosport International show,” he said. “We’re pleased to have agreed a deal with Ollie to return the fold and are looking forward to resuming the relationship we enjoyed with him when he raced with our Golf. Ollie is a driver who comes back into the series with a point to prove after a tough year in 2014 and we are confident that we have a package that will allow him to show his true potential.”

    Banzai Magazine - March 2016The March 2016 issue of Banzai magazine includes an extensive 4 page company profile which takes a look behind the scenes at our Sheffield based headquarters along with our long standing heritage in the performance exhaust market.

    In the feature the magazine explores where the Cobra Sport brand began and how it has become "a go-to company when it comes to performance exhaust systems". We are very pleased to be named in the article as "One of the most influential performance parts companies in the UK". Highlighted in the included images is our extensive range of performance exhausts for the Japanese market.

    Also in the article, the magazine acknowledges our Made in Sheffield award and continues to explain it as "a symbol of excellence in manufacturing which is recognised worldwide".

Featuring heavily in the images is our latest exhaust for the Ford Focus ST range which has been designed for the ST TDCi model and takes the form of a new Venom style Rear section exhaust.

    The article also takes a closer look at our long heritage in the performance exhaust market along with present day activities such as our headline sponsorship of the AmD Tuning BTCC Team who in the 2015 season fielded a Ford Focus ST driven by Mike Bushell.

  • Cobra Sport research and development department gets an upgrade!

    Cobra Sport Research and Development RampsCobra Sport R&D DepartmentAs part of our recent factory update scheme, the improvements to our research and development department have now been completed allowing us to take on more development work on our dedicated ramps. Our extensive investment in research and development allows us push the boundaries of exhaust technology. All of our exhaust systems are put through a complete development cycle backed up by stringent testing alongside quality manufacturing processes.

    We now have two ramps dedicated to the research and development of new exhaust system. This will allow us to offer performance exhausts for many of the soon to be released high performance cars. We have a lot of exciting development projects booked in for the upcoming months and will be regularly announcing new systems for all of the exciting releases this summer. These will include the new Ford Focus RS when it becomes available in the UK this spring. We currently have the Honda Civic Type R FK2 in for development work with the completed systems due to be released within the next 6 weeks.

    Cobra Sport have now completed the development of a full range of performance exhausts for the new Honda Civic Type R FK2. The new FK2 Civic has been into the workshop previously for the initial design stages and the completion of an initial exhaust test system, which was taken to the Nürburgring for full track testing. Feedback from the test system has been analysed by our research and development team and they have now made the final tweaks the system to ensure the new exhaust does the Type R justice.

    The new Honda Civic Type R features a brand new 2.0-litre four cylinder direct injection VTEC Turbo engine which generates as standard 306 bhp at 6500rpm and 295lb ft of torque at 2500rpm. These figures lead to an impressive 0-62mph time of only 5.7 seconds. The 306bhp Japanese hot hatch is reported to be the best front wheel drive Type R to ever be released. Featuring a six speed manual gearbox along with proper mechanical LSD the Type R is sure to become a modern legend.

    The Cobra Sport Exhaust systems for the Type R have been developed in a number of configurations to appeal to a wide range of buyer requirements. The new cat back exhaust systems are available with either resonated or non resonated centre sections to suit buyers looking to improve and deepen the exhaust tone whilst staying within a similar decibel range for comfort within the cabin. Along with the cat-back systems we are able to offer the ultimate upgrade for the Civic Type R with a number of configurations for a full turbo back exhaust systems taking the Type R to the next level in terms of both sound and possible power output.

    We were keen to improve on the standard soundtrack. During the design stages we were keen to put this right straight away by enriching the sound produced by the 2.0 turbo Honda VTEC engine creating a vibrant and pitch perfect exhaust tone to match the strong styling of the Civic. The aggressive styling of the Civic Type R has been complemented beautifully by the 4” twin tailpipes available in a highly polished stainless steel finish.

    The bore size of the mandrel bent stainless steel pipework has been increased to 3” (76.3mm) to significantly increase flow rate and produce a deeper, more vibrant sound. Rolling road testing of the completed resonated cat back system revealed a +6.2 increase in bhp along with an impressive +26.7 lb-ft of torque taking the Civic Type R to the next level.

    Feedback from early FK2 Civic Type R owners and long term test journalists has been that the sound track as standard direct from the factory doesn’t match the aggressive styling of the bodywork having been described as ’not tuneful’ and ’not nice to listen to'. This is something that were keen to put right straight away by enriching the sound produced by the 2.0 turbo Honda VTEC engine creating a really vibrant and aggressive exhaust tone which is something the Civic Type R really deserves. The aggressive styling of the Civic will be complemented beautifully by a choice of 4” twin tailpipe options available with a highly polished stainless or ‘Blackout’ ceramic coated finish.

    Building on the success of our hugely popular performance exhaust systems for the previous Corsa D VXR and VXR Nürburgring, we were keen to get our hands on a development vehicle to begin the design process for a new range of sports exhaust systems for the Corsa E VXR.

    The new Corsa E VXR has been hotly anticipated and boasts performance stats to rival any of the recently released hot hatches. With a published 0-60mph time of only 6.8 seconds and a top speed of 143mph the Corsa VXR packs more power than ever from its 1.6 litre turbocharged engine. With just over 200bhp and 181lb ft of torque, the sporty 1.6 turbo engine is sure to be a popular choice for those looking for affordable performance.

    Our Research and development team set out to create a range of systems looking to create impressive performance gains and to create the vibrant sound that the Cobra Sport systems have become widely known for. To complement the aggressive styling of the Corsa E VXR, our stainless steel exhausts are finished in a choice of 4" tailpipes in a range of slash cut styles including our new ‘Blackout’ ceramic coated option.

    Our sports exhaust systems for the Corsa E VXR are now available in a range of configurations to suit your chosen looks and sound. We were keen to create a series of direct fit aftermarket exhaust systems to cater for the many tastes and requirements of the end user. The new systems are manufactured in 3” (76.2mm) T304 stainless steel with mandrel bent pipework and are available in both cat back and full turbo back exhaust configurations. Each of the systems have the option for resonated or non-resonated sections. For those looking at full system and maximum performance gains, a choice of either a high flow sports catalyst or de-cat front section are available to complete the full turbo back system.

    Early feedback from the first customers to receive their exhaust system for the Corsa E VXR is proving to be incredibly positive and we are excited to have released the systems for the new Corsa VXR after the success and respect the Cobra Sport brand enjoyed with the previous Corsa VXR models.
