Cobra Sport Heritage

The origins of the company dates back over forty years to 1968

1968

Wortley Auto Spares set up in Sheffield by Philip Jarvis. In these days auto accessories shops were quite rare, to the volume of only a dozen or so in south Yorkshire. Wortley Auto Spares was an agent for Burgess exhaust silencers, which made up 50% of the turnover.

1969

Philip Jarvis and his Team's Broadspeed Ford Anglia used to race almost every weekend in the special saloon championships (today known as the British Touring Car Championships) with considerable success.

1974

ASCAR Exhausts was founded as an exhaust specialist & manufacturer, situated in Sheffield city centre they were one of the first companies to purchase the “Blue boy” bending machine in the country (notice the price in the window).

1977

Philip continued his racing passion with his race team competing in the Formula Ford and the Formula 2000 championships.

1979

Ascar Exhausts became an agent for Grundy Stainless Steel Exhausts (part of British Steel Corporation), the company responsible for the first stainless steel systems.

1992

Pete Jarvis left school and started work at Ascar Exhausts as an exhaust fabricator.

1994

When Ascar sales began to decline, Pete Jarvis looked for opportunities to diversity from the core market and created the Cobra Sport brand to begin producing and fitting his own brand of stainless steel sports exhausts with higher quality methods of exhaust fabricating.

2000

Max Power Live show that Rachel and Pete started to attend on a yearly basis.

2002

Rachel Jarvis Joined the team at Ascar Exhausts whilst studying for her Law Degree at Sheffield Hallam University,

2004

Ascar Exhausts ceased trading, compulsory purchased by the council due to a new inner ring road to be built through the centre of Sheffield. At this point, Phillip opted for retirement and Ascar closed for business.

2004

To take advantage of this opportunity and to continue the family legacy, both Rachel and Pete managed to raise the finance needed and invested everything into a new company called Exhausts UK Ltd was established. Exhausts UK Ltd continued to develop the custom built stainless steel exhaust side of the business, under the Cobra Sport trademark proving increasingly popular with customers seeking quality performance exhaust systems. 

2006

Launch of the first Cobra Sport e-commerce website. A small initial range was developed to sell online and via mail order. 

2008

Approached by Subaru UK and Izuzu UK to produce a range of exhausts. Exhausts UK was going from strength to strength and taking on contracts with other major brands. Exhausts UK began to work with the Manufacturing Advisory Service along with other external support organisations and business mentors to critically evaluate the company and put in place a strategy for development and growth.

2012

Re-brand and launch of new website with a full marketing campaign in place to attract new customers and new markets.

2013

Cobra Sport gears up to exporting products worldwide and is awarded with the “Made in Sheffield” mark.

As part of the continued growth and expansion of the business, Cobra Sport invest heavily in its R&D department, on machinery and further factory upgrades to allow for future growth and expansion and to keep up with demand.

Cobra Sport sponsors Audi S3 in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship and becomes exhaust technical partners to the AmD team hand crafting a custom exhaust system for the NTGC-spec BTCC car.

Cobra Sport are invited to join the Performance Automotive Aftermarket Association which is a trade only association of senior decision makers within companies who manufacture, distribute and retail performance parts or services for the automotive aftermarket throughout Europe.
