Cobra Sport Heritage

The origins of the company dates back over forty years to 1968

1968

Wortley Auto Spares set up in Sheffield by Philip Jarvis. In these days auto accessories shops were quite rare, to the volume of only a dozen or so in south Yorkshire. Wortley Auto Spares was an agent for Burgess exhaust silencers, which made up 50% of the turnover.

1969

Philip Jarvis and his Team Broadspeed’s Ford Anglia used to race almost every weekend in the special saloon championships (today known as the British Touring Car Championships) with considerable success.

1971

Wortley Auto Spares opened a second branch in Thurnscoe, Doncaster.

1972

Wortley Auto Spares opened a third branch in Heckmondwike, Leeds.

1973

Wortley Auto Spares opened there 4th branch in Barnsley, which was later used as the Head quarters.

1974

Quinton Hazell (QH - himself) purchases Wortley auto spares, (Philip Jarvis stays on under the new name of “Master Auto Centre’s” as a consultant for 12 months, before looking for his next venture).

1974

ASCAR Exhausts was founded as an exhaust specialist & manufacturer, situated in Sheffield city centre they were one of the first companies to purchase the “Blue boy” bending machine in the country. "Notice the price in the window"

1977

Philip continued his racing passion with his race team competing in the Formula Ford and the Formula 2000 championships.

1979

Ascar Exhausts became an agent for Grundy Stainless Steel Exhausts (part of British Steel Corporation). Responsible for the first stainless steel systems.

1980

Ascar Exhausts opened a branch in Doncaster.

1982

Ascar Exhausts opened an additional depot in Huddersfield.

1984

A further Ascar Exhausts depot was opened in Leeds.

1986

Ascar Exhausts opened another branch in Otley.

1989

Philip purchased the companies, Classic Exhausts of Keighley incorporating Ludlows of Sowerby Bridge, both manufacturers of exhaust systems.

1992

Peter Jarvis left school and started work at Ascar Exhausts as an exhaust fabricator.

1994

The brand Cobra Sport was created by Pete & Phil Jarvis so they could start selling their own brand of sports exhausts.

2000

Max Power Live show that Rachel and Peter started to attend on a yearly basis.

2002

Rachel Jarvis Joined the team at Ascar Exhausts.

2004

Ascar Exhausts ceased trading, compulsory purchased by the council due to a new inner ring road through the centre of the city / to allow a road to be built through the centre of the city. As Philip was near retirement age he left his son and daughter to continue the legacy.

2004

Exhausts UK was formed by brother and sister team, Rachel and Peter. Exhausts UK, which is the parent company name, mainly deals with business to business trade, Cobra Sport was re-branded and continued to manufacture quality performance exhaust systems.

2006

Launch of e-commerce website.

2008

Approached by Subaru UK and Izuzu UK to produce a range of exhausts. Exhausts UK was going from strength to strength and taking on contracts with other major brands.

2012

Re-brand and launch of new website which expands on the brand and enters new markets.

2013

Cobra Sport gears up to exporting products world wide and is awarded with the “Made in Sheffield” mark.
