Strong start for Lomax but bad luck strikes twice | British Rallycross

Yorkshire based Rallycross driver Craig Lomax headed over the Irish Sea to Mondello International Race Circuit, just outside of Dublin, for rounds 5 and 6 of the British Rallycross championship.
The Cobra Sport backed driver was looking to build on his great start in his maiden BMW Mini campaign. Saturday’s dusty conditions proved challenging but Lomax finished fourth in Semi Final 2.
After driving a well-disciplined race, he secured third spot and earned an inside third row start for the final. He made the first corner safely in the pack and opted to take his joker on the first lap which proved decisive as it gave him the clear track, he needed to make up time on the cars in front. He managed to leapfrog into fifth place and earn valuable championship points.
Following on from Lomax's rollercoaster weekend at Pembrey Circuit in May, Lomax's bad luck would strike again. Just after a wet free practise on Sunday, Lomax was forced to withdraw from the event on medical grounds, leaving the plucky Yorkshireman wondering what could have been. Eyes are already on the next round in Belgium at Glasso at the beginning of August.
Craig Lomax, #24:
‘Not the way I had planned on ending the weekend, but to ensure I’m physically fit for the remaining rounds I had no choice but to withdraw on Sunday. It was such a shame as the car felt great and was getting faster and faster. As always thanks to all the support from my sponsors, family and fans .'
