TCR UK - Bad Luck Strikes Twice For Callum Newsham at Donington Park
Posted by Cobra Sport Admin
After a dramatic weekend at Knockhill Cobra Sport brand ambassador Callum Newsham was in high spirits for the fifth round of the TCR championship as he and the touring car races headed to Derbyshire's most popular race track, the legendary Donington Park Circuit.
The weekend kicked off with an unlucky qualifying session for Callum as he encountered traffic during his fast lap and got held up, qualifying down in 12th place, however Callum remained in high spirits knowing he had the pace to make up lost ground come race day.
Race day started off well as Callum quickly made up places, getting to P4 and closing in on the podium places. However bad luck does strike twice as all of Callum's hard work quickly came undone as his i30N's fuel pump developed a fault, resulting in Callum finishing race one back where he started in P12.
The track conditions changed as the rain hit Derbyshire, with Callum seeing this as an opportunity to move up the field as he thrives in wet conditions.
Callum took every opportunity to attempt to move up the grid, however an attempted overtake resulted in him losing two places and he was held up by slower cars for the majority of the race. Eventually Callum was able to put his i30N in a position to catch the leading group of cars, however it was too late and he finished the final race of the weekend in P6 - despite having the pace to match the front runners.
The whole team learned a lot from the eventful weekend at Donington, with the scotsman holding his head high and targeting a podium finish for the season finale at Brands Hatch on the 21st and 22nd October.
