TCR UK - Strong 2-2-1 Results at Silverstone

Posted by Nick Cockman

Callum Newsham produced a standout performance at Silverstone for round three of the TCR UK Championship, firmly re-establishing himself as a contender in the 2025 title race in his Cobra Sport sponsored Hyundai i30 N.

Following a challenging start to the season, Newsham arrived at the legendary Northamptonshire circuit sitting fifth in the championship standings, making this a crucial weekend for the #16 driver to regain momentum.

Qualifying saw Callum on the pace immediately, holding provisional pole position for much of the session. However, a late flying lap from rival Steve Laidlaw narrowly denied him the top spot by just 0.04 seconds, placing Newsham second on the grid.

Race one was a closely fought battle at the front, with Callum applying consistent pressure on Laidlaw throughout the race. Despite his best efforts, a safe overtaking opportunity never arose, and Newsham wisely settled for second place, collecting valuable championship points as title leader Adam Shepherd finished down in sixth.

In race two’s reverse grid format, Callum lined up in ninth but faced immediate drama as Shepherd stalled ahead, forcing Newsham into evasive action at turn one. After a chaotic opening phase and a lengthy safety car period, he fought his way through the pack to secure another strong P2 finish, once again behind Laidlaw.

The third and final race saw Newsham start from second on the grid. A lightning start allowed him to take the lead into the first corner, and once in clean air, he never looked back. Demonstrating superb pace and composure, Callum built a two-second lead and maintained it to the finish of the race, claiming a dominant and well-deserved victory.

With a consistent 2-2-1 result across the weekend, Callum has now climbed to third in the championship standings, reducing the gap to the top to just 12 points as the series reaches its halfway stage.

The TCR UK Championship resumes at Croft Circuit on 14–15th June, where Callum and the team will be aiming to carry forward their impressive Silverstone form.
