The AMG A-Class has been a long time favourite amongst hot hatch fans. When Mercedes launched the third generation A-Class in 2018, AMG decided they wanted to appeal to a wider audience by creating a car to go head to head with Volkswagen’s Golf R and Audi’s S3.
What AMG did was take their already successful M260, 2.0 litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine and created the magnificent AMG A 35, which produces 306bhp and 295 lb-ft of torque.
The A 35 has seemingly limitless tuning potential. Cobra Sport have enjoyed enormous success with their recent A 45 performance exhaust range. Aiming to replicate this success with the A 35, Cobra Sport are proud to announce their latest product range for the Baby AMG. Over the past few weeks, their research and development team have been hard at work developing an extensive range of performance exhaust systems that will cater to the needs of any AMG enthusiast.
Cobra Sport opted for 3" (76.2mm) stainless steel pipework which is larger than most on the market for the biggest upgrade in terms of performance, flow rate and sound levels. The free flowing Cobra Sport exhaust setup will open up the future tuning possibilities of the A 35.
The Mercedes-AMG A 35 performance exhaust configuration options are as follows:
- Cat Back - Pipework attaching the catalytic converter and continuing to the rear of the vehicle. (factory catalytic converter retained but deleting the PPF - ECU remap required / off road use only).
- PPF Delete - Pipework to remove the PPF filter only – (ECU remap required / off road use only).
- Rear Performance Exhaust (PPF Back)– Pipework attaching to the centre of the vehicle and continuing to replace the rear section retaining the PPF filter.
- Venom Rear Performance Exhaust (PPF Back with Back Box Delete) - Pipework which replaces the rear box of the vehicle, resulting in the ultimate improvement in terms of exhaust tone and sound level whilst keeping the stock catalyst and PPF in place.
As with all of the latest performance vehicles, the sound of the car from the factory has been severely limited offering a lacklustre and uninspiring exhaust sound. Cobra Sport have been able to truly open up the character of the A 35 optimising the exhaust tone with systems that both work with and remove the PPF filter.
Adding the missing drama and emotional connection to the A 35 driving experience was top of the list during the development process.
During the design stages, Cobra Sport made sure that all of the configurations are interchangeable so customers can add to their system over the coming years. We imagine most will start with the PPF Back configuration which can be fitted without the need for any engine tuning as it keeps the stock catalyst and PPF in place (MOT compliant). Adding a PPF delete section would create the Cat Back setup. The systems are available with or without the exhaust valve.
Also available in the range is Cobra Sport's unique ‘Venom’ range. For those who want a further improve sound levels, the Venom exhaust removes the rear silencer to offer the biggest sound increase whilst keeping a sporty exhaust tone.
Like all Cobra Sport exhausts, the A 35 performance exhausts are TIG-welded from high-quality T304 stainless steel and the mandrel-bent pipework is a full 3in (76.2mm) in diameter for maximum sound and tuning potential.
With over 25 years in the performance exhaust industry, each Cobra Sport exhaust system is designed, manufactured and tested in Sheffield, the heart of the UK steel industry. Cobra Sport utilise TIG-welding techniques to ensure a flawless finish and quality that you can rely on.
