The VW Golf R Mk7.5 follows on from the success of it's predecessor: the Mk7 R. VW have gone to great lengths to make sure that the updated version of their four-wheel drive mega-hatch is improved in every conceivable way seemingly bar one: the introduction of a GPF (Gasoline Particulate Filter) in the vehicle's exhaust system. The addition of the GPF allows the newest Golf R to conform to the latest European Emissions Standards but as a trade off, it dilutes the vehicle's aural qualities, making for a performance car that doesn't quite have the bark to match it's bite.
Cobra Sport in Sheffield have developed a solution for this in the form of their new GPF-Back Performance Exhaust System. Precision TIG-welded from T304 stainless steel, this new system is available with or without integrated valves.
The valves are specially developed to integrate with the factory Driving Modes and open or close depending on the mode selected, so you can keep sound levels to a minimum or unleash the engine's full potential, depending on your mood. In addition to this, vehicles fitted with the optional DSG gearbox will emit an enhanced sporty tone on upshifts. The GPF-Back system, as the name suggests, retains the factory Gasoline Particulate Filter, but still manages to effectively enhance the exhaust note of the vehicle's EA888 2.0 TSI engine.
A range of 4"/101.6mm round and 4.5"/114.3 oval tailpipes options are available, including highly polished stainless steel tips and Ceramic-coated Blackout tips (optional extra) which really set the rear of the car apart from a standard Golf R.
Like all Cobra Sport exhausts, this system utilises precision TIG-welding techniques for exemplary fit and finish – a feature that gives Cobra Sport an advantage over other manufacturers. With over 25 years in the performance exhaust industry, each Cobra Sport exhaust system is designed, manufactured and tested in Sheffield, the heart of the UK steel industry.
